Increasing Digital Literacy Through the UI Figma Animation Workshop for Young Talents at SK Muhibbah Sarawak

Abstract
The acceleration of the creative ecosystem at the regional level demands early digital literacy preparation for the younger generation, particularly young digital talents in the Southeast Asian border areas. This international community service program aims to introduce user interface (UI) design technology and animation using the Figma platform to elementary school students to trigger global creativity from an early age. The partner for this program is Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Muhibbah, located in Sarawak, Malaysia—a geographically challenging area on Borneo Island near the West Kalimantan border, requiring transportation via small sampan boats along the Sarawak River. The implementation method involved a hands-on approach through an intensive workshop titled "Digital Stars: Unleashing Creativity Through Figma UI Animation" held on February 1–2, 2026. This initiative was led by a team of lecturers from the Bachelor of Applied Science (D4) in Animation Program at Politeknik Negeri Padang, collaborating with six Information Technology Department students, and fully supported by local partners, the Society of Visual Informatics (Sotvi.org) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The results demonstrated that the knowledge transfer and direct practice successfully provided the participants with a solid foundation to become creative content creators, while simultaneously enhancing the students' international field experience. This service successfully strengthened cross-border institutional cooperation for regional digital literacy development
